Race: Elf

History of Race:
Elves were said to have been created with the blood of the god Corellon Larethian which explains their long life spans. The Fractioning occurred after the Elfwar when the Drow separated themselves from their brethren because they chose the shadows over the light. They resented (and still do to this day) their brethren, because the gods stepped in and thwarted the Drow in their almost victory in gaining control of the elven lands.Over time the elves grew further apart and soon acquiring separate distinct characteristics

From the primordial turmoil at the center of the universe sprang the gods full-fledged, full-formed. Each claimed jurisdiction over certain effects, all being equally endowed with the power and force of the cosmos. They cooperated for the first (and the last) time to create the worlds. But some gods used their powers more wisely than their brethren.

An early alliance formed among these wiser gods. They knew how to manipulate their power. This gathering of gods, who called themselves the Seldarine (or the Brothers and Sisters of the Wood), imparted their very essence into creating certain aspects of the worlds.

While other gods squabbled over jurisdiction and possession of this virtue and that attribute, the Seldarine modified some of the lands, making their worlds lush and green and beautiful. In addition, they created vessels that would one day hold the spirit of the first sentient life to set foot upon these worlds-the race of beings known as Elves. They crafted these vessels with thought and care, and gave them extraordinary beauty. The other gods grew black with jealousy, and they thirsted to imitate the Seldarine.

These gods hastily fashioned their own vessels, vying against those created by the Seldarine. But they would not invest the time vital to creating a race, and so their results were flawed-the gods did not care. Their creations were nothing like those shaped by the Seldarine. Most were Monsters, creatures that would one day haunt the dreams of Elves. Of all the crude creations, only the vessel reserved for Man held a glimmer of potential, for they would one day have the ability to change the land as would the Elves.

The gods of the new races tried too hastily to reproduce a feat that had taken the wiser gods eons. But neither group's constructs would not come to life until the historic meeting between Corellon Larethian and Gruumsh, leader of the Anti-Seldarine.After the Godswar, the deities divided the world among themselves so that their creations could prosper and grow. The Seldarine chose the forests for their children, the Elves, but secretly encouraged them to spread as they would. The other gods did likewise, and the races fought for land: The hatred introduced by Gruumsh the Cursed One had spread to the mortal species.

The Elves were, at this time, all one people. There were variations, but these were individual, rather than any sort of societal rift. All differences were a matter of personal inclination, and the Elves lived in harmony with one another.

There were those who lusted for power, and those who could not bear to live within the confining walls of a city. Others were rabidly xenophobic, wanting to bar outsiders such as Humans and Dwarves from the Elflands, keeping away the taint of those "unfavored by the gods." Still others, more moderate in most things, were scorned by their brothers or even despised.

Each Elf thought he knew best, and each tried to impose his views on his brother. Evil flourished in this atmosphere of distrust and dissent. The great Elf cities of old deteriorated, and the Spider Queen Lolth gained a foothold in the hearts of many Elves. They used her to gain greater power and influence, and her evil ways led them even further astray. These Elves practiced dark magic and forbidden lore to make themselves mighty, and they turned from the light they had loved so much.

The tension grew unbearable. The Elves who had embraced the teachings of Lolth marched into the cities and slaughtered their brethren. The first attack came under cover of darkness, and the other Elves could not mount a defense. But they had seen the dark time to come, and they had readied themselves for war. Their preparations were not in vain. They returned fire.

The Elfwar raged for decades, neither side gaining victory. Thousands of Elves perished on both sides, and the number of wounded grew ever higher. The Elves of Lolth took the name Drow to signify their new allegiance, and they took the cities they had captured as their homes. They massed for the final battle, and Lolth covered the land in loathsome clouds of black to strike fear in the hearts of mortal Elves. The Drow were prepared to win-but then the gods themselves intervened.

Corellon Larethian and his companions struck deep into the heart of Drow territory. Long and hard they fought, seeking the evil in that land. Finally, Corellon Larethian came upon the dread Spider Queen, and he attacked. Magic flared and spat; blood merged in rivulets. Then Corellon struck Lolth a telling blow, driving her deep into the earth. With her defeat, the haze over the battlefield lifted, allowing the bright light of the sun to bathe the land in its healing rays.

The Drow turned their faces away from the sun's purification, preferring instead their fallen goddess. They consciously chose the shadows over light, and Corellon decreed that such treachery would forever show upon their faces. It is for this reason that the skin of the Drow is dark.

Corellon forced the evil Elves into the rift where he had banished Lolth the Spider. After the last Drow was driven underground, he and his fellow gods abandoned the Elves to their own devices, preferring instead the plane of Arvandor.

AQUATIC~ Aquatic elves are the rarest of elven breed. They dwell in deep oceans and large bodies of inland water. They have gill slits, but can survive onland for short periods of time (1-2 days). Most aquatic elves have silver-green skin, some even have a bluish tint, though this is very rare. Their hair is green or blue-green to compliment their skin. Aquatic elves have also been known to survive forever in fresh water. Average height for an aquatic elf is approximately 4 feet tall, Average weight for an aquatic elf is approximately 95lbs. But just as in all races there are exceptions and rarities.

DROW~ Drow elves live underground. They are shorter than most elves. Drow have dark grey skin, red eyes, and white hair. Female drow are physical stronger than males, so the males tend to cower and be submissive to the females. Drows generally take a chaotic attitude...whereas they will do anything they need to in order to get what they want, even if it means murder (remember, writers MUST discuss and agree to killing one of their own characters). Average height for a drow elf is approximately 4 and a half feet tall. Average weight for a drow elf is approximately 95lbs. But just as in all races there are exceptions and rarities.

GREY~ Grey elves are the most reclusive and the most noble of the elves. Their "purpose" is to make sure the world is on a path to goodness. They consider themselves protectors of good. They are partial to cloaks of gold, silver, white, yellow, dark blue or purple. Grey elves fancy elegant dress. They have a beauty that makes them appear almost supernatural. They are taller and more slender than the other elves and usually have silver hair and amber eyes. The hair and eyes tend to distinguish them from their High elven brethren. The rarest of the grey elves are those who have been come to be known as the faerie elf. They have pale golden hair and violet eyes. Grey elves spend most of their time in books rather than physical labor so they tend to be highly intelligent. Average height for a grey elf is approximately 4 and a half feet tall. Average weight for a grey elf is approximately 85lbs. But just as in all races there are exceptions and rarities.

HIGH~ High elves are the most common of all the elves. They are also the most open and friendly. They are not easily befriended, but once it happens they are the most reliable, trustworthy, and honorable elf to associate with. High elves tend not to tan, therefore there skin stays very pale. Some high elves have blonde hair and blue eyes, while others have dark hair and green eyes. They prefer light pastel colors and cloaks of green. High elves have a high respect for nature, never taking more than what is needed and always returning more. Average height for a high elf is approximately 4 and a half feet tall. Average weight for a high elf is approximately 90lbs. But just as in all races there are exceptions and rarities.

SYLVIAN~ Live primarily in the woods. They prefer a simple life and life gives them the greatest pleasure over anything else. Sylvian elves have yellow to coppery-red hair and eyes are generally light brown. Green, hazel and blue eyes are extremely rare. They are also know to be a bit on the wild side and have quite a temper. They generally gravitate toward a more neutral attitude. Average height for sylvian elf is approximately 5 feet tall. Average weight for a sylvian elf is approximately 95lbs. But just as in all races there are exceptions and rarities.

Strengths:
Ability to camouflage into their NATURAL environment, keen eyesight. Not as keen as a bird of prey, but sharper than a human's.

Weaknesses:

AQUATIC~ Severe pain when out of the water for more than 2 days as well as loss of strength.

DROW~ Hate the light

Abilities given to all elves:
Communion~ The inborn ability to share experiences, feelings, and lives with those elves the love or trust. Communion can only be accomplished with two willing elves. Requires all elves involved, up to a maximum of four, to be completely relaxed. It also requires the elves to be completely serene and thinking of only each other. Once the relaxation is accomplished, the elves must sit in a circle and lightly touch palm to palm and open their minds to each other experiencing their joys, disappointments, fears, hatred, etc. Communion can only be accomplished once a week, if is done more often with the same partners eventually there will be little differences separating them. Communion also greatly drains the elves attempting it.

Elvensight~ Infravision. There must be NO light for this ability to work. 120' radius. Obviously the eyes need some time to adjust; it's not an immediate ability. If they are using elvensight and there is suddenly a light source, the elf will be temporarily blinded. This temporary blindness should be proportionate to the brightness of the added light source.

The Reverie~ Elves typically don't sleep. They can enter sleep if so desired. The reverie is akin to sleep and is where the elf relives past memories both good and bad. They don't have control over which memories they relive, just as dreaming in other humanoids. When entering the reveries, they don't close their eyes. The are totally relaxed and look almost as though they are in a trance. The elf is aware of his/her surroundings, but cannot act upon them. If torn from the reverie the elf will be very confused and disoriented for a short time.

Glamour~ The ability, for a time, to make him or herself appear as something they are not. This is a form of hypnotism or charm. It is but a suggestion that the elf is something they are not (without the strengths, weaknesses, or habits....i.e., appearance of a vampire the elf does not crave blood or have the strengths and weaknesses of a vampire; If the appearance is a master wizard, they cannot work magic beyond what they could in the original elven form). Glamour cannot be performed unintentionally. It MUST be concentrated on, however, this does not mean the elf cannot go about his/her normal daily routine. Younger elves can make it appear that they are human in every way, shape, and form. Once an elf reaches old age they can make it appear they are a different race, with the restriction that the race they choose to appear to be is humanoid. Because this is a spell or an ability that requires a good deal of energy, the glamour can only be effective for 1 day for each year of life. Example: A 229 year old elf can maintain the glamour for 229 days or an average of 7 and a half months. Once the appearance has "run it's course" the elf must rest and is unable to perform glamour again for 2 days for each year of life. Example: Above 229 year old elf's glamour runs and expires, elf cannot perform glamour again for another 114 days or 3 and a half months. If an elf is a lycanthrope, vampire, magician, or has any other race that they were turned or changed to, they will be weakened proportionately (this depends on their age in "changed" years). IMPORTANT!! Elf aging stops when turned. Example: Above elf was turned into a vampire at the age of 229, but they have been "alive" for 300. 229 is the age the glamour works off of.

Resistance to Heat and Cold~ Elves can withstand temperatures up to 100 degrees F. Elves can withstand temperatures down to 32 degrees F. Temperatures over 100 degrees or under 32 degrees F, elves will begin to feel the effects as others. However, elves are not immune to the affects of fire and snow.

Elves are also resistant to ordinary diseases. They are not immune, but are only rarely affect by ordinary diseases. They also have a type of regenerative ability. Scars, not wounds, will fade and disappear more quickly than with other races. These scars will only show up under scrutiny or harsh lighting. Elves can NOT regenerate lost limbs or organs.

THE ELVEN BOND~ Sometimes an elf will form a mystical, unbreakable bond with another creature. This other creature doesn't have to be elven. This bond is for life. If bond mates are separated for a long period of time, they will literally die of heartbreak. Once the bond is in effect, those bonded (even if the bondmate is not elven) can feel the strong emotions of the other; joys and sorrows, triumphs and angers. The elven bond is an even stronger version of communion. This bond also applies, in a lesser extent, to the earth itself. If away from nature or other elves, an elf can die from grief and loneliness.

AQUATIC~ Can regained lost strength in 15 minutes or more once reintroduced to salt water. If in fresh water, the lost strength is not regained but halted.

DROW~ "Good" elves tend to push their buttons faster than anything else.
